Western Tigers’ Super Eight knockout tournament launched

The inaugural Super Eight Knockout football tournament which is organized by the Western Tigers Football Club was officially launched in the canteen of the club’s sponsor BK International Inc., with the handover of the first prize of the tournament.

Present were Gordon Gilhuys, president of the club, members of the executive and Alexis Tiwari, daughter of BK Int’l CEO Brian Tiwari. Gilhuys said a few months back he approached his executives with the idea of a club fund-raising event which would see the Premier League teams facing each other as there has been Cellink Plus Premier League competition this year.

“We want to give the Georgetown fans an opportunity to get a glimpse of Premier League teams in action, so we approached BK International with the venture and they were happy to come onboard,” Gilhuys declared.

BK International has been sponsoring Western Tigers for three consecutive years and they have watched the team win  the GFA First Division League and the Kashif and Shanghai title which they will be defending this year.

Speaking on behalf of the company’s CEO was Kit Nascimento who said that Tiwari was very pleased with the team’s progress and hopes they continue their good form.

The teams involved in this tournament are Alpha United, Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Camptown, Conquerors, Pele, Western Tigers, Riddim Squad and Santos.

They will compete for the top prize of $500,000 while the runners up will receive $200,000, third place – $100,000 and fourth place – $50,000. Individual prizes such as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Best Goal Keeper are also up for grabs.

The tournament kicks off on November 24 and continues on the 26th, 28th and concludes on December 5; all games will be contested at the Georgetown Football Club Ground.

Other sponsors onboard for the tournament are Ansa McAl, Kings Jewelry, Exclusive Styles, Toucan Industries, Keishar’s and Cummings Electrical.
