Police are investigating a shooting incident which left a businessman injured and his alleged robber dead in a Blankenburg Housing Scheme.
In a release issued yesterday, police said that around 21.30 hours on Friday night Rayan Boodhoo of Boodhoo Housing Scheme, Blankenburg WCD was returning home with his wife in their motor vehicle when he was confronted by two men at the entrance of his residence.
The release added that one of the men who was armed with a firearm discharged a round which struck Boodhoo in his right thigh. “Boodhoo who is a licensed firearm holder discharged several rounds from his firearm in return, fatally wounding one of the men, Drepaul Persaud called ‘Deportee’ of No 2 Canal WBD, to his head. The man with the firearm managed to escape.”
The police acting on information did recover a white Toyota Carina AT 192 motor car from the premises of a bar at Blankenburg. According to the release, the car, PJJ 1849, had been parked there by the perpetrators earlier.
Divisional Commander Balram Persaud told Stabroek News that the dead bandit was a known car thief in West Demerara and was also a deportee.
He said that ranks in the division are still looking for the man’s accomplice who managed to escape after the businessman opened fire.
Boodhoo was treated in a city hospital.
