Forde does the ‘double’ twice

Like he did last year Guyana’s Cleveland Forde yesterday won the second leg of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) South American Athletics Confederation 10 km Road Race Classic in Paramaribo, Suriname.

According to Leslie Blacks, coach of Alika Morgan, Forde won the race from Brazil’s Eliesio DaSilva.

Guyana’s Dennis Horatio and Nathaniel Giddings were third and fourth respectively.
Guyana’s only female participant, Morgan, placed fifth in the female’s category.
According to Blacks, Forde, who also won the first leg held in Guyana last week, finished the race in 31 minutes and 27 seconds.

Sunday.
Surinamese Ilsida Toemere was second.

Speaking exclusively with Stabroek Sport, Morgan said that she will be looking to take a break from athletics for a while following her yesterday’s performance.

Morgan explained she was very disappointed with her performance but was not too surprised as she is suffering from a fever and has been feeling very weak.

“I’m taking a rest after this 10km just a few weeks to rest. Yea, I’m a little bit disappointed but two days ago I developed a fever and I was feeling very weak during the race and was able to keep up second behind the Brazilian girl little over the half way mark as I was feeling very weak.

“The Surinamese girl that got second she had gotten fifth in Guyana when I had gotten second, so it’s just that I couldn’t put up a fight because I was weak,” Morgan explained.
Morgan had also stated last Sunday that she was not in the best of health when she ran the first leg of the race although she managed to place second.
