Host of the Namilco Football Festival, Fruta Conquerors Friday night defeated Seawall United on penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
Playing at the Tucville playfield, Conquerors edged Seawall United 4 – 3 on penalty kicks after the two teams were deadlocked 1 – 1 at the end of regulation and extra time.
In the feature match of the night Alpha United defeated Milerock 4 – 2 to also make it into the next round.
The competition continues on Wednesday with New Amsterdam coming up against
Rosignol United at 6pm while the 2009 runner-up BK International Western Tigers will face off with Riddim Squad in the feature match at 8pm.
In Friday night’s curtain raiser, Conquerors faced a Seawall United side which had won three of their last four matches in the National Super League.
Travis Hackett put Conquerors in the lead with his 17th minute goal and the score stayed that way until half time.
The second half saw an energized Seawall United squad attacking from the opening minutes.
They were rewarded with a 48th minute goal when Ike Garraway found and opening and exploited it.
It took penalty kicks to break the deadlock.
The game between Milerock Football Club and Alpha United saw Alpha United scoring in the sixth minute when Shavane Seaforth clinically finished a ball crossed from the right flank that got past the goalkeeper.
Two minutes later, the Milerock squad who was counterattacking quite often, equalized when Oswald Benjamin caught the Alpha `keeper off his mark and sent a terrific long shot from on the left flank that comfortably made its way into the back of the net.
The final minute before half time Shawn Bishop received a cross from on the right flank and slammed it into the back of the net.
Alpha then took control of the match when a Milerock own goal increased the lead to two goals.
In the 84th minute, Seaforth delivered the final blow to make it a 4 – 1 game. Milerock battling to the end, scored a consolation goal in the final minute of play compliments of Solomon Austin.
