Thrill seekers will converge on the Rising Sun, Arima Park West Coast Berbice for the staging of the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee (RSRC) annual Rodeo beginning at 11:00 hours today.
Vaqueros from Brazil arrived on Friday while their local counterparts have already assembled at the facility.
Further, the number of participants has increased significantly with participants coming from Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela, the Rupununi Savannahs including Lethem, and the Corentyne River areas.
The local contingent known as the West Berbice Posse will be made up of horsemen from the Abary, Mahaica and Mahaicony River areas.
In anticipation of this event some rehabilitation works were done at the venue, according to organiser and president of RSRC Inshanally Habibulla. He noted that everything is in place for today’s event.
A grand stand was constructed and patrons will be able to view the day’s activities in more comfort.
According to information coming from the organizers over 10 different activities in various categories are scheduled to be staged during the day. Steer roping and bareback bronco are just a few of the events that will see female riders getting into the action.
There are also male and female barrel races, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, saddle bronco and Tug-O-War. A number of novelty events will also get the children and adults involved in the day’s activities since the “organisers are striving to get everyone involved.”
Outstanding performers will be presented with monetary incentives, trophies and other prizes while the winners in the Rodeo King and Queen competitions will also be awarded lucrative incentives.
Stabroek Sport learnt that over $1,000,000 in cash, trophies and other incentives will be up for the taking at the event. Several business entities have also pledged their support to the event.
