Early yesterday morning, a 25-year-old who was returning home from Georgetown lost control of his motorcycle and slammed into a light pole along the Houston, East Bank Demerara Public Road.
Robin Alli of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) shortly after the incident.
Rabby Sooklall told Stabroek News yesterday afternoon, that his son was returning from Georgetown sometime around 6.30 am when he collided with one of the light poles along the road way.
Reports reaching him, the man said, have indicated that his son was contemplating the turn at the Houston stretch of the road when he lost control of the motorcycle. One of Alli’s friends, who recognized the smashed remains of his motorcycle, informed relatives of what had happened.
Alli’s younger sister, who lives at Providence, East Bank Demerara with their parents, told this newspaper that she last saw her brother on Saturday evening. The family, she explained, was celebrating her daughter’s “nine days” and Alli was there with his wife.
Her brother, the distressed woman said, left the Provi-dence location on Saturday evening to take his wife home. She could not say where her brother would’ve gone after.
After they were informed of what had happened the woman said that she, Sooklall, her husband and other relatives visited the scene of the incident.
When they got there, she recalled, Alli’s smashed motorcycle was still on the road where it had been flung after the impact. A woman, she said, had witnessed the incident and it was from her that relatives learnt of what had happened to the man.
“We’re not sure what else there is to say…he was riding by himself. He loved riding and he was very popular for it. Everyone know him from the biker boys that frequented the Biker Fest every year,” another relative lamented.
This newspaper later learnt that after taking his wife home from the family celebration in Providence, Alli left for a party in the city. While at the party, reports said, the man had been consuming alcohol.
Alli also leaves to mourn two children ages 2 months and 4 years.
