Following success in last Saturday’s Grand Coastal Inn Medal Play tourney
With the Guyana Open just weeks away, 16-year-old golfer Avinda Kishore is the player to watch following another victory this time at last Saturday’s Grand Coastal Inn Medal Play tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Kishore who placed second at the recently held Suriname Open in the neighbouring republic, continues to be impressive on the local scene since he made his debut close to two years ago.
He shot a net 63 from a gross 73 playing off a 10 handicap leaving the course five shot clear of his closest rival.
The teenage prodigy, whose brother Avinash Persaud, the current Guyana Open champion first won the prestigious title when he was 16 years-old, emerges as the front runner to win the title in what could turn out to be a sibling rivalry.
Bholawram Deo finished second with a net score of 68 from a gross 84 playing off a 16 handicap.
The third spot went to Patrick Prashad, who shot a net 69, from a gross 77, playing off an eight handicap
Jerome Khan was Nearest to the Pin.
Grand Coastal Inn promised a bigger tournament next year over the Easter weekend which is expected to attract players from overseas.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Grand Coastal Inn, Finance Comptroller, Satrughan “Sarwan” Lucknauth, said his company was working closely with the Lusignan Golf Club to stage the international tournament where players from the Caribbean and further afield will be invited to compete.
LGC Captain Prashad thanked Grand Coastal for sponsoring the tournament for another year and pointed out that Mokesh Daby, the Hotel’s Chief Executive Officer, was an ardent golf fan who has always shown an interest in golf locally and even offers special discounts to overseas golfers who visit for the Guyana Open.
