PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath has written the Barbados Cricket Association to offer the TTCB’s condolences on the death of Prime Minister David Thompson.
Thompson died at his home in Barbados last Friday at age 48, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
“We are aware of the keen interest he had in cricket and his efforts to promote the game in his beloved island. We know that he is now resting in a better place,” Bassarath wrote to BCA president Joel Garner.
Bassarath also wrote to West Indies Cricket Board president Julian Hunte to lend support following the passage of the dangerous Hurricane Tomas.
The powerful tropical cyclone caused significant damage on the small island of which Hunte is a native.
“May I extend our sympathy to you and the proud and noble people of St Lucia on the destruction and loss incurred by the wrath of Hurricane Tomas,” Bassarath said.
“We know that Lucians are resilient and capable of rebounding quickly but fragile and stagnant Caribbean economies which we are all experiencing, can ill-afford such destructive setbacks.
“As an experienced leader of your country and indeed the Caribbean, I am confident that you will summon your wits and courage to lend advice and stability in the process of national re-building. Best wishes to the Government and people of St Lucia.”
