Police responded speedily to a report of an armed robbery at the Georgetown seawalls early yesterday morning and intercepted a car and a suspect.
Police said in a press release that around 02:00 hrs, two men were at the seawalls when they were held up by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm. The perpetrators took away a quantity of gold and silver jewellery, $20,000 and a cell phone from the victims and escaped in a car.
According to the release, the quick response by the police led to the interception of the car at Norton Street and Louisa Row, Georgetown and the arrest of one of the men who had a silver chain in his possession. The jewellery has since been identified by one of the victims as being his property.
The man is in police custody and will be charged shortly, the release added.
