St Lucia appeals for help

(BBC) St Lucia is appealing for international help, as the death toll from last week’s devastating hurricane mounted.

Prime Minister Stephenson King has also asked the French to assist the island in search and rescue in the aftermath of what is already being described as the worst ever natural disaster in St Lucian history.

Mr King has put damage in the aftermath at the disaster at an initial EC$100 million, that’s about US$37 million.

The worst affected community is the West Coast town of Soufriere, where homes were washed away with their occupants inside.
