Police on the East Coast are looking for a four-man gang that terrorized a Lilendaal family early Sunday morning before escaping with millions in cash, jewellery and other items.
A senior police officer told Stabroek News yesterday that no one has been caught but ranks were “hunting for the suspects”.
He said that sometime between 2:45 and 3:20 am, the men, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered the Third Street house by removing five louvre panes from a window on the upper flat of the two-storey building.
They went to the first bedroom where Errol Forde was asleep and after gagging and tying him up, took away cell phones and jewellery.
Businesswoman Latchmin Narayan who was asleep in a second bedroom, with her children was then pounced on. They were all duct-taped.
The woman subsequently directed them to a wardrobe where a large amount of cash and jewellery belonging to Narayan and her sister were hidden.
Narayan’s brother, Lalbachand who is the owner of the property and his wife were not spared by the bandits who invaded their bedroom on the lower flat. They too were duct-taped and robbed of their valuables.
According to the officer, the men also fled with a laptop computer and a quantity of soap powder.
Investigations are continuing into the matter.
