A West Ruimveldt man accused by the police of having a quantity of narcotics in his possession for the purpose of trafficking was on Monday remanded to prison after appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation is that on October 29 at Georgetown, Orin Marshall, a mason of 229 West Ruimveldt, had in his possession 20 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey in presenting the facts of the case told the court that on the day in question, a mobile police patrol was in the West Ruimveldt area conducting a search operation when the accused was stopped, searched, and the illegal substance found in a bag he was carrying.
According to Harvey, Marshall was arrested and told of the offence but he gave no response.
When given a chance to respond, the defendant told the court that at no time was he carrying any illegal substance.
“Nah me meh worship, me din carrying no cannabis. Me en had nothing in me possession,” Marshall exclaimed.
The unrepresented Marshall was remanded to prison. His matter was transferred to Court Five for report and fixture on November 8.
