Junior tennis player Saevion David-Longe Monday night earned a win against Rajesh Ramrattan in a men’s singles encounter on the opening night of the Pegasus Open Tennis Tournament held at the hotel’s courts.
Fresh off his runner-up position in the Nigel’s Supermarket junior tourney which ended last Sunday, David-Longe cruised to an easy 6 – 2, 6 – 0 win against Ramrattan.
In other men’s singles matches, Jason Glasgow and Kester Abrams registered a win each as they advanced to the next stage of the competition. After winning the first set for the loss of a single game, Glasgow gained the victory when opponent Ade Doobay retired.
Abrams, though had more of a fight, losing the first set to Bishan Dalip 6 – 7 before recovering to win the next two sets 6 – 4, 6 – 2.
In the only men’s open doubles match of the night, the pair of Andre Lopes and Sandeep Chand overpowered Gavin Barckoy and Henk Williams 6 – 0, 6 – 0 while in the men’s 55-years-and-over doubles, Omar Persaud and Bobby Khan defeated
Albert Madramootoo and DL Mendis 6 – 2, 6 – 4.
