A 43-year-old trader who is charged with two counts of passport forgery was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that between July 20, 2007 and November 2, 2010 at Georgetown, Yansen Howard Baird conspired with persons unknown to forge one Republic of Guyana passport, number 1209493, in favour of himself purporting to show that the passport was issued by the Central Immigration and Passport Office, knowing same to be false.
According to the police, on November 2 at Lethem with intent to defraud, Baird uttered to Wendell Proxley, an immigration officer, one Republic of Guyana Passport, number 1209493, in favour of himself knowing same to be false.
The defendant who resides at 10 Public Road Kitty, Georgetown was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read to him by the magistrate.
The prosecution made an application that the defendant be remanded to prison because of the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
This request was granted and the unrepresented Baird was denied his pretrial liberty.
He was ordered to return to court on November 9.
