Junior tennis player Krystal Sukra became the latest player to move up in the women’s singles category after she produced a two-set 6–1, 6–4 win against Thi Fernandes on Wednesday night in her first singles match of the current Pegasus Open at the tennis courts of the Pegasus Hotel.
Sukra cruised to an easy first set, making it up to 5-0 before dropping her first game of the match but she quickly countered as she finished the first set 6–1. However it was a frustrating opening for Sukra in the second set, as Fernandes took an early lead.
Fernandes broke serve twice and held on to go up three before a discouraged Sukra took a break to compose herself. Sukra then returned to take charge and lead the set to 5–4 before breaking serve to finish the match.
And in the men’s singles match Rawle Sue-Ho advanced to the second round of the men’s singles category after he eliminated Gairy Myers in a 6–4, 7–5 victory.
Meanwhile, the team of Omar Persaud and Bobby Khan now stand as champions of the men’s over 55 doubles category following their last Wednesday night victory. Persaud and Khan overcame the partnership of Maxie Fox and Steve Surujbally after a 6–0, 4–6, 6–4 match.
