Karel Mars was adjudged the overall winner of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) National Powerlifting Championships held last Sunday at the Critchlow Labour College.
The overall results from Sunday’s championships were delayed and not released by the GAPF until yesterday, due to technical difficulties affecting the judge’s computer which resulted in a mix-up in Sunday’s results.
The complete official results, which include the overall winner and best gym, were released to Stabroek Sport yesterday, by president of the GAPF, Peter Green.
Mars, who trains at the Buddy’s Gym and competed in the 100kg weight class and won the 100kg weight class, claimed the Sunday’s best lifter award after lifting a total of 765kgs.
The championships’ new heavyweight champion Colin ‘Mr. Clean’ Chesney, of Upper Demerara was the runner up in the overall standings, while Paul Adams and Winston Stoby, both of Kings Row Gym were third and fourth respectively.
Sunday’s lone female competitor, Dawn Barker was awarded as the day’s best female lifter with a total of 450kgs.
Following the tabulation of points Kings Row Gym came out on top of the four other gyms competing for the champion gym award.
Hardcore gym was second, while Total Fitness gym captured the third spot.
