The government has rejected the assertion that the appointment of Dr. Ashni Singh as the acting Prime Minister is unconstitutional.
The Office of the President (OP) issued a brief statement on Thursday saying it had taken note of the remarks in the media about the appointment and would like to confirm that “the appointment was well considered and is within the ambit of the constitution of Guyana.”
Singh’s appointment has been questioned since he is a technocrat minister within the National Assembly. Article 101 of the Constitution states that” “The President shall appoint an elected member of the National Assembly to be Prime Minister of Guyana…”
