A stallholder alleged to have had a quantity of firecrackers in his possession without lawful permit was on Wednesday placed on $25,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Asgar Ali, 53, of 99 West Ruimveldt, is that on November 1 at Georgetown, he had in his possession a quantity of firecrackers without obtaining a permit to have the explosives in his possession. The father of seven pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the magistrate.
Magistrate Azeez told Ali that while he had pleaded not guilty to the charge he would nonetheless encourage persons desist from having such items in their possession as they are extremely dangerous to both people and animals. The Magistrate then placed Ali on $25,000 bail. He was ordered to return to court on December 3.
