Bishops’ High School, led by Caribbean Under-13 girls’ singles gold medalist Chelsea Edghill and Caribbean Under-13 boys silver medalist Jamaal Duff made light work of the opposition to stroll into the semifinals of the Digicel sponsored national schools table tennis tournament which got cracking yesterday at the National Gymnasium.
Also through to the semi-finals of the Under-13 competition is Mae’s `A’ with Kyle Edghill, Rajiv Muneshwar and Jeremy Singh.
When play continues today at the same venue from 10am, Marian Academy `A’ will battle St. Joseph’s High School while Queen’s College will come up against New Amsterdam Multilateral for the two remaining semi-final spots.
Yesterday, Bishops’ High School defeated New Amsterdam Multilateral (Bryton Murray and Joshua Lallbachan) and the Combined Schools (Elishaba Johnson and Shemar Spooner) by 3-0 margins to top their group while New Amsterdam Multilateral edged the Combined Schools 3-2 to also advance to the quarter finals.
In Group B, Mae’s `A’ defeated St Joseph’s and West Demerara by 3-0 margins and won from Marian Academy `B’ 3-1 to also top their group while St Joseph’s placed second with 3-0 wins over West Demerara and Marian Academy `B’.
Queen’s College topped Group `C’ after defeating Marian Academy `A’ 3-1, and Dolphin’s Secondary and Mae’s `B’ by identical 3-0 scores. Marian Academy `A’ emerged runners up of the group after defeating Dolphin’s 3-0 and Mae’s`B’ 3-1.
In the Under-15 category Central High School (Samuel Fraser and Carl Handy) defeated Bishops `B’ (Olivia Weekes and Orlando Arno) 3-0 while the Business School (Nigel Bryan and Sunil Logan) won 3-0 from Mae’s `B’ (Kyle Edghill, Akecia Nedd and Stephan Corlette.
Bishops’ `A’ (Denzel Duff and Michael Munroe) defeated Marian `A’ 3-0 while Dolphin’s Secondary (David Duncan and Jonathan Douglas) defeated Queen’s College `B’ (Shemar Britton and Jewel Todd).
And Marian Academy `A’ (Joseph Johnson and Keshwar Gobin) whipped New Amsterdam Multilateral (Marlon Humphrey and Terrence Giddings) 3-0.
