The reigning World Kickboxing Association’s middleweight champion is a US citizen of Guyanese parentage.
Twenty-six-year-old Dwight Grant who was born in the US to Guyanese parents won the title last Friday in Scotland.
According to the New York Daily Mail the newly crowned champion pulverized his first two opponents in the tournament by forcing them to submit in under a minute in each match.
However, he won the final bout – and the title – by default because his adversary failed to show up in the ring last Friday.
“Winning how it happened is kind of anticlimactic,” Grant told the newspaper.
Tourney officials waited about two hours for Grant’s foe before awarding Grant the title.
