Three families, comprising around 15 persons, were left without shelter this afternoon after a fire suspected to be of electrical origin ravaged their Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust home.
Reports reaching Stabroek News say that the fire started at about 4.30 pm. Within a short time the two-storey wooden and concrete structure was completely destroyed.
The house, Stabroek News understands, belongs to the Gilliams family and three families, all related, were living in the building.
Triciana Green, one of the persons who lived at the Lot 61 Bent Street house, told Stabroek News that she became aware that there was fire when she heard her aunt screaming out. The woman said she immediately grabbed her baby and ran outside.
All the families’ possessions were destroyed in the fire. (More in tomorrow’s edition)
