Dear Editor,
I am not usually one to follow promotions, since I am of the opinion that I can never win. However, going against the norm, I decided to try the new GT&T promotion ‘Textmas’ which promises to give away three Mazda cars, among other prizes.
I must say, I am very disappointed that I wasted my hope, time and most importantly, money on this promotion. After much pomp and ceremony at the launch of the promotion at the races last Sunday, I decided to follow the instructions and text WIN to 620-PLAY. According to the advertisement, I am supposed to get eight questions which I would have to answer correctly for a chance to enter in the grand prize draw.
I sent messages on Sunday and got no response. I decided that it may be a technical glitch since it was the first day of the promotion. I tried again on Monday after seeing the ad in the newspapers, again just in case I was doing something wrong initially. To my dismay, I did not get back any responses again. You must understand my frustration at this point so I decided to call the promotion hotline (0GTT), and this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. After explaining my issues to the young lady, she advised me to check the website (www.cellinkgy.com) for further information, as does the press advertisement. The information is not on the website. I called back the hotline number, only to be told (in a very nonchalant manner), “The information is not on the website? Well you will have to wait.”
Even as I write this letter, more than 24 hours after the launch of the promotion, the website has not been updated nor have I received my promised eight questions. Is this the kind of service that Guyanese have to accept from one of our main corporate citizens? Why would GT&T have their customers spend money on a promotion that is not yet up and running? Do they disregard their customers so much that they will not even take a little amount of time and effort to ensure the promotion is ready before bringing it to the public?
Yours faithfully,
Ayana Cort
