Plaisance market tarmac plan moves ahead

President Bharrat Jagdeo today visited the railway embankment at Plaisance to survey the area earmarked for a market tarmac.

GINA said the works include expansion of the road to include a concrete paved sidewalk on both sides, clearing of drains and the main canal and the resurfacing of streets in the village wherever necessary. West Road was one such street earmarked.

Conducting the inspection with Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn, Minister of Local Government Kellawan and road works engineers, the President asked that residents, particularly stall owners in the area be more accommodating.

The President told GINA after the visit  “I am very happy with the accommodating attitude that everyone showed… they want to continue selling and I think in a society like ours we have to allow people to continue to make a living even if they have to sell by the roadside. But they have to do so in a tasteful way and in an orderly way… this is all that we ask”.
