A Sophia woman accused of a theft in excess of $210,000 was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of $125,000 after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
The allegation against Candace Barker is that between October 31 and November 7, she stole a quantity of jewellery and cash valued $221,000 property of Shaundell Hicks.
The accused, a janitor who resides at 93 South Turkeyen Sophia denied the charge of simple larceny when it was read to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey in giving the facts of the case told the court that sometime between the periods mentioned, the accused who is well known to Hicks had gone to pay her a visit when she removed the items from the woman’s home.
The prosecution had no objection to the accused being granted her pretrial liberty. Barker was later placed on $125,000 bail and ordered to return to court on January 4 for statements.
