The Majek Fingers Drumming School will receive a quantity of musical instruments from Caribbean Peoples International Collective Inc, a non-profit organisation and two other private donors on Monday.
A press release from the school said it “is excited about this first donation which will give free instruments to enable youths to be a part of the school.”
It noted that the school was founded because of the need for low cost music lessons and music participation for children of Guyana.
“Private lessons can be too expensive for many families and group lessons have been all but eliminated in most schools so it is very necessary that we continue to provide this service. We saw that there will be many, many children that will not get the opportunity to learn music. We want to fill that gap and provide those lessons to all children,” Dr Dawn Stewart, Manager of the Drumming School was quoted as saying.
The press release pointed out that obtaining instruments can be a huge barrier to expanding or starting music programmes and often schools cannot request a teacher unless instruments have already been secured.
In many areas, students have to share instruments, which hinders them from advancing on their own and in this regard any donations made to the Drumming School will be highly appreciated.
To make a cash donation, donate an instrument or to register a child one can contact the school’s founder Orlando Primo on 699-2231.
