The relatives of Alexis Perreira, whose decomposing body was discovered early Saturday morning in a yard at Christianburg are awaiting a post-mortem examination (PME) before making funeral arrangements.
Contacted yesterday, Commander of the Police’s E & F Division Assistant Com-missioner David Ramnarine said the cause of death has not been determined because the PME was not done yesterday. Stabroek News understands that this procedure is not likely before Friday.
A Matthew’s Lane, Section ‘B’, Christianburg resident discovered Perreira’s body shortly after 6 am. According to Ashanti Subner, her sister-in-law went into their yard and was about to spit in a nearby drain when she saw the body of the woman in the neighbour’s yard among high vegetation.
Kiza Dawson, 19, identified the partly decomposed body as that of her mother Alexis Perreira, 36, of Blue Berry Hill, Wismar, Linden. According to Dawson, she last saw her mother alive on Wednesday. “We ain’t living too far from one another and she call me over and I went and she buy thing fuh eat and I ask she for $500 and she said is $1,000 she tek from she bank book and she just spend $500 on me and de other $500 is fuh last she fuh de rest ah de week,” Dawson said.
At the time of the discovery the body was clad in blue denim jeans and a pink top, which close relatives said caused them to positively identify her. “She was at my shop only Thursday,” relative Mayfield Greene said, adding that she was quite familiar with the pink top which Perreira wore on numerous occasions.
Residents of the area where Perreira’s body was discovered said that on Friday night they were bothered by the stench but were not sure of the source. The vegetation in the yard was overgrown because the owners of the property have been away from the area for quite some time now.
Residents posited that the woman might have been killed and dumped in the yard between Thursday and Friday night. “She had she ways and because she wasn’t too sound [of a sound mind] people use to trouble she and take advantage of her a lot,” one resident said. “…That would cause her to retaliate but if you don’t trouble her, she never use to trouble a soul.”
The body is lying at the Lyken’s Funeral parlor.
