The Police Officers Mess “A” team lost 2-3 to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on Sunday in their semi final encounter of the 2010 Inter-Organization teams table tennis tournament at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The Police Officers Mess “A” team lost its opening match when Patrick Triumph was defeated 2 – 3 by Warren Hacksaw.
Former national player Gary Pratt, evened the score by outclassing Quincy Rice 3 – 0.
However, GFS regained the advantage with a crucial win in the doubles match where Rice and Hacksaw outmanoeuvered Pratt and Triumph 3 – 2.
Crowd favorite to the sprinkling of spectators, Mess “A”, restored balance after Triumph won 3 – 1 against Rice, but in the decisive match Hacksaw defeated Pratt.
The GFS will oppose Kashif and Shanghai in the final after they advanced at the expense of NP Electronics 3 – 0.
Michael Veira 1-3 to Steffan Barrow while Andre Lopes was beaten by a similar score by Ray “Copter” Anderson.
Anderson and Barrow sealed their spot in the final with a 3 – 0 win in the doubles over Vieira and Lopes.
The tournament came to a premature close after blackout called a halt to the proceedings and the final and third place play-off will be played tomorrow.
