Vigil held for Murray

Members of the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM), the youth arm of the PNCR, this evening held a vigil outside of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for party member Winston Murray, who remains on a life support machine at the hospital.

About thirty persons participated in the vigil, where songs were sung and prayers said for the recovery of Murray.  Among those in attendance was former PNCR executive member Vincent Alexander.

Murray, 69, collapsed last Thursday evening while standing in a line at McDoom, East Bank Demerara. He was rushed to the Balwant Singh Hospital before being transferred to the GPH. He had suffered cerebral haemorrhaging and lapsed into an unconscious state. On Sunday neurosurgeon Dr Ivor Crandon, who arrived in the country from Jamaica, examined him and declared him brain dead.
