The allegation is that between October 29 and 30 at Georgetown, Malcolm Mentore called Keith and Kurt Clarke stole one motorcycle valued $545,000 property of Claude Duguid.
Between the same dates also, Mentore is alleged to have stolen a motorcycle valued $182, 700 property of Kevin Lowe.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the two counts of simple larceny when they were read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
In giving the facts of the case, Prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that sometime during the period mentioned, the virtual complainants who are unrelated parked their motorcycles in their yards and after returning sometime after, discovered that they were missing.
According to Telford, in these separate incidents the police were summoned to the scene and based on information received, they were led to the defendant’s residence where the motorcycles in question were found.
Telford in his request that the accused be denied his pretrial liberty said that Mentore is a previously convicted defendant for matters of similar nature.
Smith who asked the sitting magistrate to be given a chance to speak and was granted said that he wanted to ask one question.
“How can I ride away with two motorbikes at the same time?” he asked rhetorically.
He then complained to the court of not being given a chance to make a phone call to his relatives who hadn’t been told that he was arrested.
The prosecution’s request was granted and the unrepresented Smith was remanded to prison.
His matter was transferred to Court Five for November 19.
