Four masked gunmen around 1:30 this afternoon invaded an Eccles, East Bank Demerara home and escaped with some $9 million after sticking up two maids.
Police sources told this newspaper that the wife of an interior businessman had hidden the cash in a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms in the two-flat house. She later went out.
The maids later heard a knocking at the front door and on inquiring were confronted by the gunmen. Two held them at gun point while the others went upstairs in search of the money.
The men then fled.
