National swimmer Niall Roberts on Thursday won the 18-years and over 200m freestyle event of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association National Championships currently ongoing at the Castellani Swimming Pool.
Roberts had, on Wednesday, won the 100m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley events.
However the 2008 Olympian said that he is not too pleased with his performance as he does not have much competition.
He said that the only other good swimmer in the category is Fabian Binns and in the races that Binns will not be taking part in, he will come up against virtually no competition.
“Most of the events I have to swim them alone and it feels absolutely depressing. This morning [yesterday] I swam the 200m [freestyle] alone, it’s like why am I even swimming in this competition. Yea, want to improve on my timings but you can’t really do much when there’s no competition to push you,” Roberts said.
Also winning all of his races was Jaime Jabar, who, competing in the 15 – 17 years category, has already won the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle events.
Kevon DeMoura placed second in the 50m breaststroke.
On the girls’ side in the 13 – 14 years category, Britany van Lange won the 100m freestyle ahead of Athena Gaskin and Soroya Simmons respectively.
Van Lange also won the 800m freestyle race held on Wednesday.
But that race is expected to be swum over tomorrow as there were some technical issues with respect to the timings of the race.
In the 200m Individual Medley Gaskin won from Simmons.
