A fine all round performance from Viendra Gooniah failed to save Skeldon Line Path Secondary School from defeat against Tagore Memorial Secondary School at the No. 63 Village Community Centre ground in the Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission/Guyana Cricket Board Secondary Schools Under-15, 40-over cricket competition in Berbice/ Mahaicony Districts earlier this week.
Tagore Memorial batted and scored 138 all out in 28.4 overs.
Sean Persaud top scored with 46 as fast bowler Gooniah bagged 4-35.
Jameil Jackman supported with 3-18 and Esau Williams, 2-42.
In reply, Skeldon Line Path Secondary only managed 114 in 23.4 overs despite Gooniah’s even half century.
Alvin Jeffrey was the pick of the bowlers with 4-16 while off-spinner Vadanand Sugrim and Persaud chipped in with figures 3-23 and 2-22 respectively.
At the Whim Community Centre ground, Manchester Secondary School beat Black Bush Secondary School by nine wickets.
Black Bush Secondary took first strike and fell for 94 in 18.2 overs.
Winston Corlette top-scored with 21 while Kevon Dean got 3-16.
Manchester Secondary, spearheaded by a brilliant 51 from opening batsman Ruel Williams, quickly reached 96-1 in 15.2 overs.
Kevon Dean chipped in with an unbeaten 21.
At Cumberland, New Amsterdam Secondary School beat Berbice High School (BHS) by 95 runs. New Amsterdam Secondary, after winning the toss, piled on a healthy 220 in 39.1 overs with Keirre Henry (48), Hakeem Hinds (41) and Randolph Davis (33) being the principal scorers.
Shimron Hetmyer spearheaded BHS’s bowling attack with 3-31. He got support from Gavin Moriah and Xavier Lambert with 2-33 and 2-47 respectively. BHS in reply, were bowled out for 125 in 26.2 overs with Eon Carmichael, 27 and Moriah, 23.
Hakeem Hinds grabbed 4-35 and Richard Henry, 2-10.
At Port Mourant, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary defeated Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary by 24 runs. J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, batting first, took 39.3 overs to score 110. Youraj Rambarran (4-23), David Lachaya (2-14) and Mokin Khan (2-14) accounted for the wickets.
Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary did not fare any better being bowled out for 78 in 31.2 overs.
Nicholas Cameron made 25 while Arif Chan (4-9), Brandon Persaud (3-11) and Karran Singh (2-8) were the chief wicket takers.
