Although the details are sketchy, relatives told this newspaper last evening that the lad was hit yesterday morning by a car somewhere in East La Penitence. The boy’s mother said that she sells in the market and she had asked her son to fetch some water for her. She said it appears as if the boy may have gone off with some friends. Sumner is the second of four children and attends the Golden Grove Primary School.
His aunt Nerlene Sumner told Stabroek News that on hearing the news she rushed down to the hospital and found the boy in an unconscious state with a heavily bandaged head. He was subsequently sent to a private hospital to get some tests done before returning to the GPH for treatment.
The driver involved in the accident, this newspaper was told, is in police custody assisting with investigations.
