A 47-year-old City Constabulary member was forced to seek medical treatment this evening after she was assaulted by an off-duty police officer who was moonlighting as a bus driver.
Patricia Depeazer suffered a deep gash to one of her feet when the police officer, who is now in custody, slammed the bus door on her which also caught part of her uniform in the process. The policeman then proceeded to drive the vehicle with the screaming woman holding on to its door and did not stop until she called out to some of his colleagues who were on duty. It was they who took him into custody.
The woman had observed the bus parked badly in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market and she approached the driver and spoke to him. She also later found out that the conductress was unlicensed and invited her to the constabulary office. This angered the policeman who verbally and physically assaulted her before driving off with her clinging to the door.
She sought treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
