Suriname continued to be dominant in the ongoing second leg of the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) sweeping the top positions in the male teams and female individual cycling time trials yesterday on the East Coast of Demerara.
The cyclists braved the rains yesterday morning on the East Coast Demerara public road to complete the male 10km teams time trial and the female 6km individual time trial which both ended at the Bel Air Gas Station.
The females were the first to complete their time trials after pedalling off from Montrose.
Suriname’s Joann Veldhuizen had the best time for the females after she crossed the finish line in 10 minutes, two seconds (10:02), while Guyana’s Marcia Dick clocked 10 minutes, 10 seconds (10:10) to take second and Naiomi Singh also of Guyana finished in a time of 10 minutes, 17 seconds (10:17).
Since only one cyclist per country’s time was recorded in the one to three placing in the tri-nation games and Dick had already secured the second position for Guyana, Singh’s was not recorded as the third place holder.
Instead, French Guiana’s Sandy Guittiun took the third slot with her finishing time of 10 minutes, 50 seconds (10:50).
Suriname’s male cyclists were as successful as their female counterparts when their four-man team crossed the finish line with the best time of 13 minutes, 24.90 seconds (13:24:90).
French Guiana was second after finishing in 13 minutes, 34.09 seconds (13:34:09), while Guyana was the slowest of the four-man teams with their 13 minutes, 48.04 seconds (13:48:04) finishing time.
