Don Lockerbie, who had become known to Guyanese during preparations for the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, has been relieved of his position as head of USA Cricket Association.
According to Yahoo! Eurosport UK, Lockerbie was relieved of his position as Chief Executive hours before a board meeting in Florida.
It said the move came after promises by Lockerbie about changes to the game in the US came to nothing. The board’s finances also remains a concern as a tournament in Florida in May featuring New Zealand and Sri Lanka is believed to have resulted in a significant loss to the US association.
The report said that Lockerbie took up his post in April 2009 and unveiled ambitious plans to transform US cricket into a professional outfit and to stage and IPL-type tournament. It added that despite strong support from the International Cricket Council (ICC) this failed to materialize.
Lockerbie became well known in Guyana in his role as the Venue Development Director of the ICC. He made several visits to assess the readiness of the Guyana National Stadium.
