Dear Editor,
So our concerned government is providing so much more to Guyana Power and Light.
I say, well – good! With the hope that one day, some time in our lives, we can get reasonable service from GPL – at least before I die. I have been hearing the Christmas promises since the Burnham era; things have not changed.
Is it my conspiracy theorist mentality, or is it really true that at Christmas time, when crime is at the maximum, people are careless and there is a need for more electricity, GPL woes suddenly increase? For decades now at Christmas time, GPL/GEC begins to blackmail the government. Last year, however, the blackouts were supposed to end. I came to GPL’s support, but others predicted that in a few months time, the blackouts would revisit, and those persons were right. GPL had constant blackouts not long after Christmas 2009.
Will the latest expansion help? And for how long? Another few months? A few nights back I had eight, yes eight, blackouts in Atlantic Gardens.
I pity the people of Guyana. It is harsh even for those with standby gensets, so imagine what it is like for those without. I still believe that the GPL CEO, Mr Bharrat Dindyal is a professional, who has to manage the sick hulk of a monster with crippling diseases and poor vets.
Yours faithfully,
Roshan Khan
