Fog turns back flight

A Caribbean Airlines flight to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri was this morning re-routed to Trinidad because of heavy fog which enveloped the area as well as several parts of the coastland.

IDB US$20M for expansion of East Bank roadway

The Inter-American Development Bank today announced approval of a US$20M loan for Guyana which will finance a programme that seeks to enhance urban and suburban mobility and safety, lower transport costs and reduce accident rates along the East Bank Demerara road up to Diamond.

PNCR Executive Winston Murray died at the Georgetown Public Hospital last night after 11 days in a coma; his passing inflicting a severe blow to his family, the party and the country.

Ramjattan: Let Caricom probe maternal deaths

Members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) yesterday picketed the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) calling for an independent Caricom investigation of the upsurge in maternal deaths around the country since the situation has reached “crisis proportions”.

US doctors conducting training courses to reduce infant mortality

US doctors with expertise in neo-natal resuscitation and newborn intensive care are here conducting training courses across the country, and the first batch of local health professionals was drawn from the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) The Ministry of Health invited the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to conduct the course under the theme, “Helping Babies Breathe (HBB).”

Chief Labour Officer, union to meet on bauxite impasse

Representatives of the Guyana Bauxite and General Workers Union (GB&GWU) are to meet today with Chief Labour Officer Yoganand Persaud to address the year-long impasse with the Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI), following a meeting yesterday between PNCR Leader Robert Corbin and Labour Minister Manzoor Nadir.
