A 31-year-old Enmore man yesterday appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court charged with stabbing his brother to death and was remanded to prison until December 6.
Joseph Kaladeen of Lot 152 Enmore North, East Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the capital of offence of murder which was read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.
It is alleged that on Thursday last at Enmore, Kaladeen stabbed Ganesh Nabbie in the neck during a drunken brawl.
Reports are that around 10:30 am the brothers, who were drinking, began arguing over a hammock and rum. Later they started to quarrel over a cellular that had been lost but was replaced by Nabbie.
Minutes later, Nabbie was seen running into the neighbouring yard where his father lives; his brother scaled the fence and confronted him on the staircase.
They continued to fight and at one point Kaladeen reportedly stripped Nabbie of a jersey and a belt which he claimed to be his. He later reportedly broke a bottle and stabbed Nabbie in the neck.
Kaladeen then calmly walked away from the scene and was later arrested by the police in a shop, two corners away.
Nabbie was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Hospital.
