Guyanese players continue to dominate cricket in Trinidad with David Dick copping the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board’s North Zone Council ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award at its 30th awards ceremony over the weekend.
Dick played in the Senior Division of the North Zonal Council for Sweet Revenge and led his club to the lion’s share of the awards at the prize giving.
The Diego Martin-based club collected trophies for Club of the Year and Cricketer of the Year (Dick) while three of their players were among the Five Cricketers of the Year.
Dick narrowly beat out fellow Guyanese and teammate Shaun DeSouza for the top award. The all rounder scored a total off 360 runs with 111 his best effort. He also scored a century in the limited overs tournament.
In the bowling department he was the star performer with 26 wickets. Club owner Zainool Shah told Starbroek Sport that Dick was a very valuable performer for the club over the past season and was the one responsible for the club winning the league title.
“Dick is really a very good player. He is someone who the captain could have called upon at any time and he delivered. He would get wickets when the going is tough and also score vital runs. He is also the best fielder we have on the team. The complete cricketer.”
