(BBC) President Obama has declared a major disaster exists in St Croix in the US Virgin Islands – a move which frees federal aid for recovery efforts.
The territory was hit by major flooding associated with tropical storm Tomas earlier this month.
The USVI delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen praised Mr Obama for the attention he has paid to the US Virgin Islands “in this time of recurrent disasters”.
