(Jamaica Gleaner) A delegation from the Association for the Resettlement of Returning Residents was expected to meet with the British High Commissioner to Jamaica yesterday.
The summit was expected to focus on the impending deportation of thousands of prisoners from the United Kingdom, including Jamaicans.
The move will save the British government millions of pounds.
However, Jamaica in particular has argued that the decision to deport its nationals would run contrary to existing arrangements with the UK.
The president of the Association for the Resettlement of Returning Residents, Percival LaTouche, says his team intends to look at alternatives to the UK proposal.
Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister Dr Ken Baugh says discussions are continuing with the UK government regarding the matter.
