A labourer alleged to have had a quantity of cocaine in his possession was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on November 25 at Georgetown, Timothy Durant had in his possession five grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant of 333 East Street pleaded not guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
In giving the facts of the case, prosecutor Stephen Telford told the court that on the day in question, the police were on a patrol in the vicinity of Bourda Market when they stopped the accused and carried out a search on his person; the illegal substance was found.
The prosecution made an application for the defendant to be remanded to prison. This request was granted by the magistrate.
Durant’s matter was transferred to Court Five for December 1.
