A mother of two is thankful she is still alive after she and her children were terrorised after robbers invaded their home as they slept. The three men later escaped with over $100,000 in cash and a quantity of jewellery.
Yesterday, Kamil Matadin, 30, of 47 Williamsburg said she was asleep with her three-year-old son in her bed when “I see a man rush into the room. One man, two man, three man run in and put gun to me head.”
A police press release said that investigations so far have revealed that three masked men, one of whom was armed with a handgun gained entry to Matadin’s home after breaking her door around 11pm on Thursday. According to the release, the men escaped with $147,000 in cash and an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
Matadin speaking to Stabroek News over the phone was at a loss for reasons why anyone would want to rob her since she has been living at her home for over four years. Her husband operates a canter-for-hire business. She said at the time of the robbery her husband was at her mother’s house.
While in her bedroom, the men demanded money and jewellery from her. “The haul off ma three finger ring I had on and then they ask for money and I give them $30,000. Then they say that is not enough so me give them a $100,000 more,” she recounted.
Matadin said she felt “terrible” during the assault. Her terror increased after one of the men place his hands over her son’s mouth to silence him from crying. She said she had to plead with the robber to stop since the child would only cry more.
Her 10-year-old daughter who was in bed and had woken up at the noise was ordered by the men not to come out of the room. The men she added then ordered her to lie face down before escaping.
Matadin said that all three men were masked and wore caps. “I’m okay now and so are the children but last night they couldn’t sleep after the bandits left.”
Police are investigating.
