HAMILTON, Bermuda, CMC – Frenchman Jacques Crevoisier has had a lucrative three-year deal to become a part-time technical consultant for the Bermuda Football Association terminated. The Royal Gazette newspaper reported yesterday that affiliates approved the BFA executive’s decision at a special congress meeting earlier this week.
Crevoisier’s US $120,000-a-year contract entailed him travelling to the island for only 10 days twice-a-year.
A former top UEFA and FIFA adviser, Crevoisier signed the contract just hours before Richard Calderon stepped down as BFA President midway through his four-year term.
His successor, former Bermuda Attorney General Larry Mussenden, disapproved of the controversial final act of Calderon’s reign and criticised the appointment of Crevoisier at the BFA’s presidential election in September.
The Gazette reported that Mussenden’s misgivings were shared by a number of the affiliates, and they demanded Crevoisier’s appointment to be reviewed by the new president and his executive team.
A well-respected sports psychologist, the 62-year-old Crevoisier had been due to replace BFA technical director Derek Broadley, whose three-year contract expires next March.
Crevoisier, who currently acts as a performance enhancer for English Premiership club Arsenal, has visited the island on several occasions in recent years to run coaching clinics on behalf of the BFA, and the Bermuda Football Foundation (BFF), which was set up by Richard Calderon and his twin brother Robert .
