The Golden-Grove/ Diamond Police Youth Group was launched today, according to the Government Information Agency.
Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee and Head of Community Policing Group (CPG) Ovid Glasgow attended the ceremony at the Diamond Secondary School.
Rohee said that the formation of youth groups should be welcomed since they provide meaningful activities besides school, home and church.
He emphasised that the youths need to create a programme that will see the development of their community. He added that once the group starts to service the community others will feel motivated to be part of the group, GINA said.
He said the Ministry will assist the group in the moving forward.
Chairperson of Diamond CPG Nelly Gordon indicated that the area’s CPG was tasked with setting up the group three months ago and to date the youth group has 40 members. She noted that the area is in need of its own recreational park.
This is the third Police Youth Group for ‘A’ Division. The other two are at Kuru Kuru College and Yarrowkabra.
