The visiting Lyzecks Volleyball team of Suriname ran out winners of the John Fernandes Limited and Digicel-sponsored club tournament Saturday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Lyzecks defeated Guyana’s Young Achievers in the final of the four team invitational tournament.
In their opening game Lyzecks defeated Castrol Strikers 15-13, 16-14 and then the GuySuCo Training Centre 15-10, 15-10.
In the final against Young Achievers, Lyzecks, one of the top Caribbean volleyball clubs, triumphed in straight games 25-19, 25-16 to capture the Digicel Trophy.
GuySuCo Training Centre toppled Castrol Strikers in the third place play-off 13-15, 15-13, 15-5.
In the preliminary rounds Young Achievers got past GuySuCo Training Centre 15-13, 15-6 and Castrol Strikers 17-15, 7-15, 15-6.
Dwayne Scott, Sales Manager of Digicel presented the trophies to the respective winners.
“We have a proud record of support for sports across this country and I can assure you that we will continue to be involved in the development of sports, while our support for volleyball will continue,” Scott told the gathering.
