KANDY, Colombo, CMC – Resurgent wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh says his half-century in the last Test was important to his career.
The 28-year-old was recalled for the current series against Sri Lanka after a six-year spell in the wilderness, and managed to get an even fifty in the drawn second Test in Colombo last weekend.
“The innings I played in the last Test match, for me, was something special. I was more patient than I have been in the past and I realised I need to be patient and watchful to get scores at this level,” said the right-handed Baugh.
“This is something I have been working on and I’m looking to carry on. I decided I had to change my game and with that change I got a measure of success. I just need to keep working hard.” Baugh was called up after West Indies selectors axed first choice keeper Denesh Ramdin over his poor form.
The Jamaican, who has played just seven Tests since making his debut in 2003, said he was pleased with how the tour had gone and was looking forward to a strong finish in the final Test starting here today.
“The tour is going pretty good for me so far. I am feeling confident. I’m comfortable behind the stumps and I’m also happy with my form in front the stumps,” he said.
“There is always room for improvement and I’m working hard to get better and better in all departments. I got a chance to bat for a long period in the second Test and I wanted to make it count. I’m looking to carry that form into the 3rd Test and beyond into the ODI Series,” Baugh said.
“I have confidence that I will do well. I was out of the team for a few years and now I have the opportunity again, I want to make the most of every moment, every day, every match.”
