Dear Editor,
I refer to a contribution by Mr Eusi Kwayana on the capacity of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation to diagnose prostate patients (‘Is it true that Georgetown hospital is not equipped to provide biopsies for prostate patients?’ SN, November 26).
While I cannot answer the question asked with any authority, it must be pointed out that the GPHC does not even have facilities for conducting the prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. Upon referral by a doctor from the institution, I had to have this done at a private hospital ($5,000) and will take the results to the GPHC on my next appointment date.
Editor, I only hope I will not need a biopsy, for that may be out of my reach as a pensioner, while the government trumpets the availability of free health care.
Yours faithfully,
