The semi-final round of the Guinness Greatest of De Street Futsal Competition was never short of excitement as the Albouystown ‘A’ and Broad Street ‘B’ teams reigned supreme at the National Park Tarmac.
In match one Broad Street ‘B’ and Alexander Village played a nail biting finish that ended in a penalty shootout after the teams were deadlocked at the end of fulltime; then the runner-up team Albouystown ‘A’ disposed of West Front Road in the second semi to move on to the final.
The final is slated for Saturday at the National Park Tarmac where the two teams will be competing for the $500,000 top prize and the Greatest of De Street title.
Match one was quite intriguing with Broad Street going ahead by two goals when Rocky Gravesande and Sherwin Smith scored in the sixth and ninth minutes. However, it was Leon Yaw who pulled one back for Broad Street with an 11th minute goal.
Two minutes later, the Broad Street team was awarded a penalty kick which was successfully taken by Dellon Williams. This ended the first half with the teams deadlocked at two goals each.
After the break, the see-saw battle continued between the two sides, then Shem Porter won the lead for Alexander Village in the 37th minute but Devon Adams equalized in the next minute for Broad Street.
The match continued to extra time where neither team was able to score which sent the game into the penalty shootout – sudden death stage where Broad Street was victorious.
The night continued with the Albouystown/WFR showdown where the teams played to a goalless first half although they both had opportunities to go ahead.
Albouystown drew first blood in the 32nd minute when Devon Small found the back of the goal and then doubled the lead six minutes later to put the issue beyond doubt and go home victorious.
